A circular solution

The reuse of industrial wastewater involves collecting, treating and then re-injecting treated water for certain non-drinking uses: cleaning equipment, boiler feed, irrigation, etc. This circular economy model limits the use of drinking water, reduces discharges andimproves the site’s water footprint.

Against a backdrop of recurrent droughts and restrictions on water use, more and more industrial sites are aiming to secure their production by recovering their treated water. This makes reuse a real solution, as well as a powerful argument in a CSR policy.

A precise regulatory framework

With the publication of the decree on the reuse of wastewater and the 2024 decrees, REUT is now governed by strict requirements on water quality, health risk management and administrative authorizations.

The water to be reused must undergo rigorous treatment, adapted to its final use: pre-treatment, filtration, disinfection, demineralization, etc. The project is also subject to prefectoral authorization, on the basis of a file justifying the control of risks.
